Anne Hathaway Cast in "The Dark Knight Rises", Tom Hardy's Role Revealed

The entertainment world was abuzz today when official casting news regarding the third and final installment of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises, was released from Warner Bros.

Anne Hathaway (Love and Other Drugs) has been cast as Selina Kyle (the alter-ego of iconic Batman villianess/love interest, Catwoman), beating a shortlist of contenders including Keira Knightley, Jessica Biel, Naomi Watts and Eva Green, for the leading female role.

Tom Hardy (Inception), who officially joined the cast last fall, puts rumours to rest with the confirmation of his character, the villian Bane, a military strategist and escaped prisoner who becomes extraordinarily strong upon being injected with a mysterious, addictive drug.

Nolan expresses his utmost confidence in his new leading lady: "I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story."

On being reunited with Inception actor Hardy, Nolan remarks, "I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies."

Hathaway will be seen next as this year's Academy Awards co-host, alongside fellow actor James Franco (127 Hours). She has also been offered a stint on an upcoming episode on Glee as the lesbian aunt of Kurt Hummel (Golden Globe winner Chris Colfer). Hardy has just finished shooting his parts in the film adaptation of the popular 1974 British spy-novel, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. He begins filming the Depression-era crime-drama, The Wettest County In The World in Georgia with co-star, Shia LaBeouf (Transformers) within the next couple of months.

The Dark Knight Rises commences production in May of this year and is planned for a release date of July 20th, 2012.

[As a fan of both Tom Hardy and Anne Hathaway, I am thrilled over the prospect of these two fine talents working on this mega project! Hardy has proven that he is capable of transforming and devoting himself completely to a character, and has also shown a tendency for tackling the most intense, demanding roles (if you've seen "Bronson", you'll know what I mean - if you haven't, WATCH IT). His Bane is sure to be dynamic. Hathaway, whose visibility in Hollywood has skyrocketed within the past year, definitely has the brains AND beauty required for the role of Selina Kyle. As an actress, she is always up for taking on new territories and game for a challenge. Both Hathaway and Hardy can expect their profiles as actors catapulted by their involvement in this blockbuster franchise.]

  2. Great post!! I'm so glad that both Anne and Tom are going to be a part of this film. What a year it has been for the both of them and with The Dark Knight Rises, their careers will surely skyrockets. And yes, I second that anyone who doubts Tom as Bane should watch Bronson. :p
