Tom Hardy the Film Warrior
Ever since I had the pleasure of meeting actor Tom Hardy on the set of the romantic comedy, This Means War back in 2010, I have vowed to watch as many of his films as possible. I assure you, this is not the easiest commitment, since many of his UK-based projects are hard to find and many of his films in general contain heavy and graphic subject matter I am not used to seeing, but being the devoted fan I am to the entertainers I support, I do it anyway.
The critically acclaimed Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is a espionage film set in 1970s London with a stellar cast of some of Britain's most respected actors - among them is Gary Oldman, whose performance as Smiley has earned him a Best Actor nomination for the 2012 Academy Awards. Tom Hardy stars as Ricki Tarr, who works alongside Smiley in uncovering the identity of the double agent within British Intelligence. While the story was challenging to follow for a simpleton like myself, I always appreciate a well-made and stylish spy movie.
The massively underrated Warrior is an boxing drama which follows the story of two estranged brothers who find themselves facing off against each other in the Sparta tournament. Tom plays the intense and jaded former Marine Tommy to Joel Edgerton's Brendan, a high school teacher who is struggling to make ends meet. It is when the brothers are brought together in the ring for the fight of their lives when they release their frustrations against their struggles, their feelings, and their relationship with their father, Paddy (played by Nick Nolte, who gained an Oscar nom for his role). Tom, Joel, and Nick all deliver remarkably emotional performances and give life to these characters.
In the silly but visually spectacular This Means War, two CIA agents and best friends find themselves at war with each other over the woman they both love. Starring Tom, Chris Pine, and Reese Witherspoon, the rom-com action flick is a feast of flashy explosions, eye candy, and familiar shots of places in Vancouver. If you are able and willing to suspend your sense of logic and your intolerance towards inappropriateness for a couple hours to have some frivolous fun at the movies, this is the film to chose!
Check out Tom's filmography on IMDB. He will be starring as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises!
